Many ancient cultures view the turtle as a link between heaven and earth. All over Asia the turtle represents universal order. The shell is symbolic of the heaven while the body is the Mother Earth and below the shell is said to embody the underworld.
They are widespread in mythology due to of their longevity braided with our hope for an extended healthy life. With their robust shields, they radiate tranquility that extends to us when in their serene presence.
The endurance and strength poised in the turtle exemplifies the wisdom of the ancients. Some cultures, such as the Vedda, understand the turtle to offer protection, happiness and carry beneficial omens.
